Windows Phone 7.8 Review: Might As Well Buy A New Windows Phone

Cool! I can change tile sizes themes and…um.

After I preordered my Lumia 900, rumors of a new Lumia and Windows Phone OS started to blossom. It didn’t bother me until I found out that my phone was incompatible with Windows Phone 8. Nokia and Microsoft felt pretty bad about it, so they decided to create a small update to make us early adopters not feel left out. Well guess what guys, I still feel left out.

I wish I could say, “Hey, Windows 7.8 is just what my phone needed. Thanks to this new update, I can live without buying another phone for awhile!” Eh, wrong. While there are significant changes (tile sizes and themes), the worst of it all is not being able to update apps.

That’s right. Any app that is meant for Windows Phone 8 will not be compatible with 7.8ers. Kind of ruins the buzz, doesn’t it?

Regardless of how obsolete 7.8 makes my Lumia feel, I definitely welcome the new look. Nothing under the hood changed. Cosmetically, it looks almost identical to WP8. The larger tiles take up more real estate, making the screen look larger than it used to be. And now I get like 10 more themes to choose from. Color me sort of impressed.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from owning a Windows Phone, it’s to never own one again. You screwed over me and countless others, Nokia/Microsoft. My facebook app is now 2 generations behind WP8’s. How am I supposed to continue living with that? I’d understand if the Lumia 900 was 4 years old. The friggin’ thing is not even a year old!

Windows 7.8? More like Windows
