For years now, it’s been rumored that Facebook has been making their own phone, buthey’ve always dismissed it by saying that’s not it’s their line of business. Every time they schedule a press conference, the rumors of a Facebook phone erupt once more and spread like crazy. Yesterday, Facebook invited the press to an event on April 4th to show reveal a “New Home on Android” and I really hope it’s not a phone.
It just doesn’t make any sense to me. Why would you make a phone OS and bring out hardware just for Facebook? I don’t want to share everything I do on my phone to Facebook, especially not my pictures or location. If I wanted to do that, I can easily open the Facebook app and upload the pictures or check-in. Hell, it’s easy to share photos because most stock phone software has an option to share the photos to Facebook out of the box.
I know Facebook is struggling to monetize mobileto the extent that they do on the desktop, but I don’t want to turn on my phone just to see an ad like the Kindle Fire does. I don’t want to use Facebook all the time either. The biggest complaint that I’ve been seeing online is that Facebook makes a shitty/buggy website app so how shitty would their phones OS be? I’ve only had issues with the HTML5 versions of their apps on both iOS and Android.
