ANet Announces Their First Guild Wars 2 Holiday Event: SHADOW OF THE MAD KING

If only we could celebrate Halloween every day of the year…

It is indeed the month to celebrate all things ghoulish and ghastly , as we enter into the midst of Autumn, and with it brings a lot of Holiday madness. I was just inside of a drugstore not too long ago and saw that they had already begun shilling their X-Mas garbage. We aren’t EVEN INTO NOVEMBER YET!!! Read the rest of this article…

HERE’S AN IDEA! Make The Next Unreal Tournament A MOBA!

HERE’S AN IDEA! Make The Next Unreal Tournament A MOBA!

Take a moment to think about the possibilities…

I am a fan of Unreal, though not necessarily as strong as I was back in the early to mid 2000’s, and I will say this: I felt like Unreal Tournament 2004 had the best offerings in terms of gameplay, really, though it was still feeding off the fumes of 90’s shooter fame, when everyone else wanted to take FPS games into a more quote/unquote realistic direction. UT 2004 had variety, color, and just enough campiness and gore to make it a fun, interesting and a diverse shooter for the time; at least to me. Read the rest of this article…

Bethesda Announces New Studio In Austin, Headed by Rich Vogel!

They’re pretty excited, I guess… But what does that really mean?

On a recent blog post from Bethesda Softworks, it has been announced that on October 3rd, they were proud to present a new studio based in Austin, Texas, sharing company with Arkane Studios, another Bethesda property. The new facility, named Battlecry Studios, will be the latest under the Bethesda/Zenimax hallmark, with the former head of Bioware’s Austin Division, Richard Vogel, as the head of this new studio. Vogel, if you didn’t know already, was affiliated with previous titles like Ultima Online, Star Wars Galaxies, and most recently, Star Wars: The Old Republic. Read the rest of this article…

Guild Wars 2 Review: Re-Invention This Isn’t, But I Still Like It

Guild Wars 2 Review: Re-Invention This Isn’t, But I Still Like It

Nothing like running around as a horned, four-eared bipedal cat monster deploying turrets!

Anyone who has played MMO’s in recent years can tell you that they’ve been… less than on-par in the quality department, from the tried-and-true WoW clones or repeats of City of Heroes, to the different but somewhat inaccessible EVE Online and Maple Story, to unique but less-than-visible games like Vindictus , Dungeon Fighter Online, or even The Secret World, all of which want to bring something new to this market, but haven’t had the chops to make it happen. Black Mesa Source Review: A Welcome Re-Imagining

Black Mesa Source Review: A Welcome Re-Imagining

It’s a bit more than a new coat of paint…

It’s amazing to think back to 2004, nearly 8 years ago, when I made that purchase at Best Buy. G-man gave me a cold, analytical stare as I took up the box, put down my cash, and went home to play a game. It barely ran at 15 frames per second on my good ol’ Dell, yet still provided an excellent experience in the way that only a fantastically well-made game can. While we’re still waiting for the next installment, it’s always nice to return to past installments to fondly remember where it all began, and why we fell in love with this franchise. Sure, there are plenty of Source games out there delivering the goods in their own unique way: Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, and Portal are all unique franchises, and it’s hard not to love at least one of them. Alan Wake’s American Nightmare Review – Remedy Returns To Its A Roots… A Bit

Alan Wake’s American Nightmare Review – Remedy Returns To Its A Roots… A Bit

I REALLY loved the original Max Payne…

Let me clarify that statement: Alan Wake IS NOT Max Payne, and in fact, most of what makes up Alan Wake, is fairly far removed from Max Payne. You cannot deny, however, that there are some very heavy similarities to both, one of the key factors being that both are essentially 3rd person shooters, and in fact, I feel that May Payne is, and will always be one of THE best in that category. It just felt GOOD, and you weren’t zoomed in over the shoulder necessarily, you had a birds- eye view of the world, and you could get a feel for the surroundings because of the camera placement and angle. Of course, you can also talk about the quote/unquote bullet-time effect that Nick mentioned in his review of Max Payne 3, but really, the game was far more than just that, it was a Noir-esque thriller with elements of horror, mystery, conspiracy and action. The character may have had some campy, cheesy metaphor-ridden dialogue, and I’m sure most of you, after seeing it once, skipped the comic-book style cutscenes (I liked them honestly), but the game was solid in most respects, and created a classic in and of itself..

‘Silent Hill: Downpour’ Review – Not Quite Left Out To Dry

‘Silent Hill: Downpour’ Review – Not Quite Left Out To Dry

This review was brought to you by FleshEatingZipper comic artist Cody!

Like a long awaited rain in the desert, another Silent Hill has come to pass, bringing a new story, a new character, and a few changes to the formula that so many people have lauded as a true horror-fest filled with deep dark secrets, cults, and psychological introspection. But does this installment do the trick? Or are we yet again met with disappointment? Well, let me say that, despite all I’ve heard about the game, having played it myself, I’m not entirely disappointed really, and in fact, knew from the get-go that it wouldn’t really be the same Silent Hill we all knew and loved back in the day. I like to think I can embrace change on this one, and I hope you can respect that, as I tell you what I think….

‘Soul Calibur V’ Review – Stabbing Its Way To My Heart… Sort Of

‘Soul Calibur V’ Review – Stabbing Its Way To My Heart… Sort Of

Once more, it seems, we must delve through space and time, taking on one’s preferred armaments to battle in the undying war between Soul Edge and Soul Calibur. But is it worth the 60-dollar price tag indicative of all games of this generation, or is it just another foot-note in the grand schemata for a long running series. Well, I can tell you for certain, what it does do, it does well, and feels good in the process.
