Madonna: Time To Hang Up Those Dancing Shoes!

So the date is Sunday 5th February. There’s a tingle of excitement coursing through the veins of every man, woman and child in America. Of course it’s Super Bowl Sunday. Now as a non-American, my interest in American Football (I could get into the argument of should it really be called football but I’ll let it slide) came a few years ago when my brother started playing for his University team. I’ve not looked back since then having sat down to watch the last TWO Super Bowls.

Comedy Actors I Want To See More Of: Andy Samberg

Comedy Actors I Want To See More Of: Andy Samberg

Andy Samberg – This was a difficult one as Samberg hasn’t really appeared in that many films, the only two I have seen being the starring role in Hot Rod and the role of Paul Rudd’s brother in I Love You, Man. Samberg, like Bill Hader, is quite well known in the US, having also been a member of the SNL cast since 2005.The greatest weapon in his arsenal is the uncanny knack he has of combining slapstick comedy with good comedy to achieve very good results. I’m not the greatest fan of slapstick comedy due to its reliance on cheap laughs, doing the obvious and expected thing instead of putting a bit more time and effort into making something you can be proud of. With Samberg, the slapstick element comes in a physical form. As I’m sure you are aware, Andy Samberg has an abnormally wide mouth, and simply pulling faces that emphasise just how big it is, or pronouncing words in a funny way could make even the most stony-faced person crack a smile. Add to this his perfect timing and delivery and we have an all round comedy actor. Read the rest of this article…

Comedy Actors I’d Like to See More Of: Ed Helms

Ed Helms – It is a travesty that most people only know Ed Helms as Stu from the Hangover films. As a staunch fan of The Office (US), for me Helms has been one of the stand-out performers since his debut in season 3, as world class suck-up Andy Bernard. His character evolution, from his original, angry salesman who enjoys suckling from the power teat, to his relationship with nemesis-turned-ally Dwight, to his cowardly, don’t-rock-the-boat office nice guy fawning after the receptionist, Helms has developed his character seamlessly, becoming one of the most loved characters in the history of comedy television. (Did I also mention he went to Cornell?) Read the rest of this article…

Neil Diamond – Greatest Musician of All Time?

Neil Diamond – Greatest Musician of All Time?

We’ve come to accept that the music industry treats our ear canals as their own personal toilet. Talent doesn’t come into question, nowadays, when signing an aspiring musician, all that is necessary is striking good looks in order to convince the easily manipulated amongst you that this hot new popstar actually wants to make love to your face…but only if you buy their CD. (I’m not thinking of anybody in particular whilst making such disparaging remarks, Justin Bieber) but to whomever may fit this category I’m about to school you on a true living legend, a musical behemoth, an insatiable lovemachine (just a guess but I mean, come on, nearly every one of his songs is about a different woman). That man is Neil Diamond. Read the rest of this article…

Overrated Actors #1 – Daniel Craig

Overrated Actors #1 – Daniel Craig

Let me tell you, I am NOT a fan of Daniel Craig. If you show me somebody who says they like his body of work then I’ll show you a liar. When he got his breakthrough role in Layer Cake, I’ll be honest with you, I was bloody impressed. The way he portrayed a man who thinks he is better than the rest of us despite being an obvious scumbag, was, I think we’ll all agree, masterful. Almost as if, to prep for the role, he spent 30+ years living as an elitist dick, just to truly get a feel for what the role demanded. Read the rest of this article…
