Amy Fights With Tough Words, But How Can She Brush?

Has it seriously been a week and a half since the last controversial elimination? It sure has! This week has Maki and Amy squaring off in the theater, coming off their less-than-stellar Con table presentations. It’s not as controversial as the last elimination for sure, but there are plenty of cute moments here. Also, Cody has a surprise for us all!

Maki and Amy had an interesting task ahead with the concepts “mermaid” and “ukelele”. This was the first time that Mike and Jerry explicitly state the point of Maki’s Redraw Ticket, which he received in the second episode of the show (hard to remember, since it’s been at least seven years since that episode debuted). The ticket can be used to pull a new idea from the waste basket – something Tavis had intuited in a previous episode – but between those two concepts, there didn’t seem to be much of an issue.

Everyone reached the same conclusion: Amy was sleepwalking through her narrative and in the drawing session, it was clear that Maki’s art was superior. I’ve mentioned it before, but it’s a shame we don’t really get to see what these artists can do artistically – close to their full capacity – until they’re about to be eliminated. I enjoyed Maki’s comic in its final form, but Mike and Jerry did bring up a great point in eliminating the remainder of the text. It’s far too easy to get wordy and explanatory in a comic. I’ll miss spunky Amy, though :(

Now, for that surprise! As the concepts were revealed, Cody played along at home and spent ninety minutes cranking out his own Mermaid/Ukelele comic, which you can check out below. Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
