I knew of James Maynard Keenan’s Tool and Billy Howerdel’s A Perfect Circle before, but it wasn’t until Thirteenth Step dropped in 2003 that I really got to know either. Both bands were some of the few that the local rock station would let run over five minutes, presumably to take a bathroom break, and I got to learn a lot about progressive rock through them. While 2006’s 10,000 days isn’t hailed as Tool’s best by a league, I still enjoyed it as my introduction to their darker stuff.
