Dyad Review – Don’t Swallow Your Tongue

“Hey, you got art in my game!” “…and you got game in my art!”

If other games are about the destination, Dyad lives fully for the journey. You’re a particle in the Large Hadron Collider (y’know, the Higgs Boson guys?) and you need to accelerate. Difficulty is graded by power and as you start ramping up, the line between game and full-on interactive visualizer vaporizes. Those familiar with Mizuguchi’s REZ and Child of Eden will know instantly where this game lies. For others, it’s simply a trip you’ll have to take.

South Park: The Stick of Truth – New Screenshots Released

SCREW YOU GUYS!!

South Park: The Stick of Truth…Another one of the things we got the pleasure of getting to see at E3. Trey Parker and Matt Stone proudly introduced the game immediately after Microsoft’s discussion of Smartglass and lauded the game as having terrible graphics and a great South-Park story.

Minecraft for Xbox 360 Passes 3 Million Sales

That’s crazy! The $20 title released in May passed a million sales in only a few days and sales have been steady since then. Minecraft is a fun game and from what I’ve seen it works really well on the Xbox. The Mojang development team has been releasing updates and has DLC already available for free or extremely cheap. I know that as soon as it catches up to the PC version I will plop down the money and pick it up for Xbox myself. Read the rest of this article…

Shadowrun Online Launches On Kickstarter

The world can ALWAYS use more Shadowrun!

Shadowrun. First it was a very successful pen and paper RPG, then it was a video game, then it became a not-so-successful multiplayer shooter, and now…Well, now it’s trying to become something else.

Jordan Weisman, the creator of Shadowrun, launched a kickstarter earlier this year and raised $1.8 million for a new turn-based tactical RPG called “Shadowrun Returns” which will launch on tablets and PC’s. Now he’s launched another kickstarter for Shadowrun Online which will come from Austrian developer; Cliffhanger Productions who are working with Harebrained and Catalyst to create the Shadowrun Universe at www.shadowrun.com.

Metro: Last Light – E3 Theater Demo

Russia…Man, it’s gone to the dogs…

The folks at THQ showed us some really cool stuff at E3. Among the things we were shown was a closed-door, super secret, totally hush-hush, we could have told you about it but we would have had to kill you, highly classified, top secret gameplay demo of their upcoming second release in the Metro IP – a title called “Metro: Last Light”. Now, they’ve seen fit to release footage of the gameplay demo to the public.

I’ve never made it a secret that I wasn’t a huge fan of the first Metro title. It wasn’t bad but at the end of the day, it was just another shooter in a vast, dry desert of shooters and there wasn’t much to set it apart. The follow-up title, however; Well, that’s a different thing, entirely.

Robot Rising: Finally, A Facebook Game For Gamers [VIDEO]

3D graphics and Diablo-esque gameplay in a Facebook title? Whaaaaa…

Are you tired of cartoony, energy-based 2D Facebook games that treat you far more like an object than anyone who could actually enjoy a genuine gaming experience? We agree, and so does developer Stomp Games, a division of Chinese Tencent’s Boston office. Their first game, Robot Rising, is currently in deep beta (you can apply on their web site) and not due out until later this year, but it already looks extremely promising.

Endless Space Review: All Of The Galactic Conquest, Little Of The Joy

Endless Space Review: All Of The Galactic Conquest, Little Of The Joy

Don’t get zealous on the scroll wheel, or you’ll quickly zoom out to this stunning, yet ultimately useless, view of the galaxy.

There’s an episode of The Pinky and The Brain where, completely drained of ideas after endless nights of attempting and failing to conquer the world, Pinky inspires Brain to build a paper-mache replica of the world, lure people onto that fake planet with free t-shirts and… well, I won’t spoil the rest. The two mice toil to create this new planet, which looks like ours, but is matted down with newspapers. It’s not until Brain concocts a special seed that the illusion is complete and this new ChiaWorld (this was the mid-nineties, forgive them) becomes a spitting image of our planet, at least from the surface up.

It’s bizarre to me that after twenty years, with all of the insight, technology, and money we have, no one has been able to replicate the charm and presentation of Master of Orion, the greatest galactic conquest simulator ever built. Oh, people have made larger and prettier galaxies, they’ve ramped up the simulations, they’ve added multi-player, but no one can replicate what really made that game tick. Despite simplifying the approach, Endless Space sadly joins a vast belt of ChiaWorlds that are close in appearance, but don’t adequately replicate the experience.

You A Gamer? Need To Get Laid? Well, You MAY Be In Luck

If you’re horny and like games, this may be the thing for you!

I’m not sure if this press release covers an amazing way for gamers to score some sex or if it’s the most disturbing idea I’ve ever heard in my life but it would seem there’s a new web site which is entirely devoted to the idea of getting gamers laid.

I’m afraid to look so one of you is going to have to do it for me.
