Arena.Net Keeps Pushing Out New Content For Guild Wars 2

Not rain, nor sleet, nor snow, nor hordes of fire-wielding Charr will stop us from making more content…
Ever since its release in November, Guild Wars 2 has been going through a lot of changes within the first 6 months of introduction. I’m not sure whether this is a frantic push to keep things interesting or sheer boredom on the dev teams, but they’re going for the gold it seems. The current living story event, Flame & Frost has been adding more and more content since January, currently sitting at the half-way point in the story.

Dead Space 3 (Xbox 360) Review: More Action, Less Horror

It’s odd thinking back on my experience with the series thus far. My first impressions of Dead Space 1 were that of being awe struck in a sense. An In-Game HUD, a third person over-the-shoulder view that didn’t obstruct the action, a unique style to art direction, using dismemberment as a means to kill baddies, and a reasonable story, as the horror was contained in a derelict space ship that forced you to take it slow, and avoid air-ducts constantly. You were an engineer, not some space marine hell-bent on killing everything in sight. It was a decent twist, taking elements from various sci-fi horror movies and mixed them up a little to create a very fun experience. Read the rest of this article…

It seems like more and more MMO’s are trying to breathe life into the genre by bringing new ways to do battle, new ways to involve players with quests, and new ways to become social. With Guild Wars 2 giving us a bit of fresh air in the Fantasy MMO market, EVE Online continues to dominate space while trying to grow into the console territory, and Planetside 2 delivers a somewhat unprecedented sci-fi war-time simulater, it’s hard to redirect one’s attention to other games. MGR: Revengeance Demo Impressions

Boy, oh, boy. More Metal Gear.
Of course, it’s a little odd not seeing Solid Snake at the forehead of this game, being the staple of the series since his incarnation in the original Metal Gear games, only ever taking the side-line during MGS3 when Raiden was introduced. Like most, I wasn’t impressed by this newcomer, who seems to have taken the spot-light. In fact I think most were happy with sticking to the grizzled survivalist we’d seen in the tougher-than-grit hero, Solid Snake, but nobody can blame a series for trying to evolve. My impressions of Kentucky Route Zero: Act 1

I’ve honestly played a lot of various interactive stories throughout my time playing PC games, many of which were made during the mid-to-late 90’s when 2D sprite based games and point-and-click adventures were considered mainstream. It wasn’t hard to look back and find various examples of narrative driven puzzle games or interactive stories as it were. Sure they had puzzles, but they weren’t based solely around just those puzzles. They were there to tell us a story, and give us a unique look inside the hero’s/heroine’s head. FEZ’s Look At Torchlight 2

A lot of people have been hating on Blizzard as of late, and more specifically the DRM behind Diablo III, as well as other aspects of the game. Yes, Blizzard can make pretty cut-scenes, and some of the gameplay videos hinted at a neat system behind it all, but I just never had the interest to buy it on Day One, the hype of it a withering sentiment to begin with, and now that it’s out and people are crying foul, there is less of an appeal for the game. I don’t portend to know better than Blizzard on how a game should be made, nor its approach to community and security, as I have no experience in dealing with a user base as large as theirs. Broad-brush social techniques seem to be the norm in that arena of development, so it’s easy to see why certain things slip through the cracks, and can damage the game in a very irreparable way.

‘Primordia’ Review: You Are ‘Safe’ Here…

See through the eyes of a sentient robot…
In a world where machines carry on the legacy of Mankind, what could be more interesting then realizing the flukes in logic when logic becomes oppressive and emotionless, and faith a relic of a half-destroyed, post-apocalyptic world? Well, Primordia hopes to give one tentative example of one robot’s quest to regain his ship’s power core, while uncovering the remnants of Man’s fall into extinction. Read the rest of this article…

ROCK-IT 3.0 REVIEW: Giant Plastic Tubs.. Seriously..

I wonder how these would sound if you had 10 going in a single room…
It comes as no surprise that a device that transmits audio, turning most anything to a speaker, would draw curiosity to us, especially for me who has to work with a different audio set-up than one what’s usually found in one’s car. Seeing as mine’s a bit of an old-clunker with no radio, improvisation is my friend, and to Rock-It 3.0’s credit, it works well enough.. Read the rest of this article…

Gabe Newell Hints At Source 2.0… In a Sense

It’s pretty damn obvious, really…
Well, for the most part anyway. Mr. Newell has not obliged us with any information directly, and to say that watching a low-res camera recording of Gabe wearing a soldier hat pulled out of a mock MannCo locked crate could only incriminate him for so much, or validate his words in so many … words. Let me clarify. Read the rest of this article…

Cyan Worlds Supports Indie Dev Team Working On “3D Riven” Project

For the Myst-fan, it’s been a life-long dream to ride the Mag-Rail trams in a fully 3D environment.
If there is ANY game series that encapsulates my pre-to-mid adolescence, it would be the Myst series. Though I would have to say I was introduced during the 2nd installment in the series, Riven was probably one of my favorite games of all time, and though it wasn’t much more than a basic slide-show with interesting puzzles, and a unique visual aesthetic, the game felt alive to me, and gave me an interesting story and setting to boot.
