E3 2013: ‘Thief’ Will Probably Piss Off Longtime Fans, But That’s Probably Okay – Here’s Why

E3 2013: ‘Thief’ Will Probably Piss Off Longtime Fans, But That’s Probably Okay – Here’s Why

Tralalala!

The Thief series is a very sentimental set of games for a very passionate group of gamers. A once exclusive to the PC, the games redefined the stealth genre from the first person perspective, adding shades of horror and incredible immersion. Now nearly a decade since the last game, gaming has changed and Thief is changing along with it, but it’s for better or worse depending on how flexible your appreciation for the series is.

E3 2013: Why Did Bungie’s ‘Destiny’ PS4 Presentation Keep Glitching Out? You’d Be Surprised Why…

Bungie’s first gameplay presentation of Destiny didn’t go off without a few hitches…

You can hear some pretty amazing things at E3 if you’re in the right spot. For example, I got to overhear why Bungie’s Destiny presentation at Sony’s PlayStation conference kept having to resort to magic tricks to cover glitches in the game. This was especially troubling after the failure of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed IV demo that continually froze on-stage. Only thing is: these weren’t glitches. Let me explain what happened.

E3 2013: These Are The Reasons Why You’re Not Buying An Nvidia SHIELD Handheld

Nvidia first stab at a gaming handheld is a shining achievement for them, but that’s not enough.

Nvidia dedicated an island at their big E3 booth this year to their new SHIELD handheld. It takes their powerful new Tegra 4 SoC processor and marries it to Android. This seems really practical in a lot of ways, it’s all very silly in a lot more. After some hands on, I can tell you Nvidia’s going to have a hard time selling this thing.

E3 2013: 5 Reasons Why ‘The Elder Scrolls Online’ Isn’t The ‘Skyrim’ You’re Searching For

Plenty of exciting biomes to get your Elder Scrolls on with.

This morning I got my hands on Bethesda’s new epic new MMO, The Elder Scrolls Online. It was a brief session, only about half an hour, but it was enough to get a good first impression of what the new online team’s been putting together for so many years. If you’re looking for a traditional Elder Scrolls game though, you’re going to be plenty surprised.

FEZ E3 2013 Podcast! #2, Day Zero – The Conferences

A raucous day indeed!

It’s been a super busy day for us on day zero, the Day Of The Conferences! First up was Microsoft where they introduced all those Xbox One games they forgot about. Everyone except N explores EA’s massive screens, no one cares about Ubisoft and N witnesses the Sony slaughter first hand. In this very special show (all of them are special, but this one in particular), N plays for Microsoft and explains that Sony didn’t really blow Microsoft away, but they certainly have a tough road ahead.

Microsoft’s Approach To Indie Game Development May Unravel The Xbox One

The battle of the indies continues.

If you’re a small game developer, chances are you weren’t terribly excited by today’s big conference. Sure, Microsoft brought Phil Harrison on stage (which is still weird to see) to let everyone know that smaller, downloadable games from independent studios would still come out for the system. Of course, to prove this point, they showed off a port of the world’s most popular indie game – Minecraft – and their pitch pretty much ended after that. What a shame, because this was their time to prove their value and they got it dead, dead wrong.

The 5 Biggest Surprises Of Microsoft’s Xbox Conference

A lot of predictable announcements, but plenty of gems to examine here.

There’s something magical you get when you attend a platform maker’s press conference. Yeah, sure, televising them everywhere has sort of diminished the point of being there a bit, but it’s where platform holders like Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo can make crazy announcements about the future of gaming. Rumors and speculation took the air out of some of Microsoft’s announcements, but there were some that caught our eye. Here are just a few of the big ones.
