Another Tuesday, another Strip Search! Last week, I was wary of the artists’ return to their convention setups. We were just in the Card Kingdom’s dungeon and now we’re back? Fine. In the end, it paid off.
While the artists were setting up their tables a few weeks back, I noted that I enjoyed the episode because I’d worked retail for a decade and the task of having to arrange merch as optimally as possible was a real calling. Naturally, you have to serve the other end of that equation and I had plenty experience there too, but I never had to sketch for people.
Mixing things up as judges and jerks while the masses converged on their tables, the Penny Arcade crew wandered around, causing havoc. Between Robert badgering the artists, hanging on their tables, and Brian running around stealing things off their tables, they kept what might’ve been an otherwise boring Con interesting. Tavis won by the challenge by default by having the thickest billfold; attendees paid for sketches with funny money. Well-deserved, his picks for elimination, Abby and Erika, were good choices not because I particularly wanted to see them go, but because it’ll be good to see their work. I think Abby could pull out a funny comic next week, but with Mike hating on her art, it seems like it’d otherwise be a stretch to not eliminate her.
