I’m sitting here sipping on a nice cup of joe, after a really good meal and I started thinking about all of the things that we have to look forward to in the new year. Higher taxes, Obamacare, more chances to win the lottery, FEZ expanding, war, getting to see boobies, famine, gun control…Some of these things are good and some are bad. Some…well some just depress the hell out of me. So I sat here sighing into my coffee and I thought “man, I need to get myself out of the dumps” and started looking for something to cheer me up.
Then it hit me. The thing that never fails to make me happy is simple as pie…Video games.
We have a lot of amazing games on the horizon, folks. Some are further out than others but the great new titles coming up are far too numerous to count. I start getting vertigo even thinking about it.
There are a few games, though, that stand out from the rest – at least for me – and those games are what I’m here to talk about. My 10 most anticipated upcoming games, in no particular order.
If I were to rate these by sheer holy-shit factor, this one would be near or at the top of the list. When Chris Roberts announced that he was going to re-enter the gaming world with a new space sim, I was giddy. The more I read about it, the more giddy I became and when I signed up for the cloud funding project, I was SO giddy I almost passed out. This game is going to be big…HUGE…His crowdfunding success has ensured that the number of features in the game willbe mind boggling and I can’t wait to have a taste. This one should be releasing in 2014. I think I’m gonna cry!
We first got our eyes on this one at E3 back in June. Ubisoft snuck it in under the radar at their press conference and the demo they did of the game was utterly mind blowing. This title gets ahold of the “asymmetric gameplay” concept and then just whips the tar out of it. This game goes in to hacking and system control and gunfights in the streets and cooperative gameplay in ways I’ve never seen. They haven’t announced a release date yet but by god it had better be soon!
This is an upcoming title by Sony Online Entertainment which promises to be a new twist in the MMORPG genre. Before the debate starts, no I don’t think it is going to be the WoW killer but I do think this is going to be a fun, actiony MMORPG with lots of great stuff going for it, not the least of which is non-instanced housing. Yeah, you read that right – non-instanced housing. When I heard about that at SOE live, I nearly jumped out of my skin and the time of its release is fast approaching. They haven’t announced a solid release date for it yet but beta signups are underway and I’ve read “spring of 2013” so the wait for this one is almost over.
ERMAHGERD!!! When we first heard EA was going to pump out a new Sim City game, back at E3, I was…well…I was kinda “meh”. I mean, Sim City is pretty awesome and all but there’s really nothing they can do to make it different, right? WRONG! The new Sim City has so many new features and functionality that I can’t even begin to list them all here so all I’m going to say is this – Multiplayer and building choices…And when you play multiplayer, you and your friends can collaborate on large projects like space centers and share resources like police, fire fighters and electricity. Yeah…Sign me up for that.
Sim City will be coming out in March of 2013. That’ll tide me over for a while I think!
This is another one that we got to toy with at E3 and I can tell you that the graphics and gameplay are top notch. This is an MMOFPS game which will be tied in to a television show that will run on the SyFy network. At this point we’re still not sure how the game and the TV show will tie in but I have been told by the folks over at Trion Worlds that events in one will effect the course of things in the other. If that’s not just about the coolest idea ever, I don’t know what is. I’m looking forward to being in the middle of a huge PVP battle, kicking the ever living shit out of the guys opposing me, and then hearing about it on TV…Yeah, that’s HOT! There’s still no release date on this one but I’m guessing sometime in 2013…And I can’t wait.
That’s it for the first half. Check back in on Friday for part 2 and see what the other 5 can’t wait games are!
