Entertainment Software Association To Teach Parents About Ratings And Parental Controls

Content may worsen if you’re stuck online with an obnoxious 12 year old

In what I can only refer to as shocking, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) today announced that they are going to be conducting a national public education campaign aimed at teaching parents about the video game rating system and the parental controls they have available to them.

When I say it’s shocking, I don’t say it for the reason you think I do.

Oh, Right! ‘StarCraft 2: Heart Of The Swarm’ Expansion Launches Tonight

Those little forehead thorns must be irritating.

You didn’t forget that the second major campaign in the StarCraft 2 saga, the Zerg-themed Heart of the Swarm, released tonight at midnight Pacific, right? Obviously, I didn’t. Isn’t it amazing how ‘eighteen months between expansion packs’ quickly becomes nearly three years? Well, we’ll forgive Blizzard because it’ll give me plenty of time to cozy up with the real-time strategy game’s most gooey and blade-equipped faction. It’s also the one I’ve spent the least time with.

‘Star Wars’ Meets ‘Call Of Duty’ In New ‘First Assault’ Screens, May Never Come Out

‘Star Wars’ Meets ‘Call Of Duty’ In New ‘First Assault’ Screens, May Never Come Out

Does it look cool? Too bad it may never exist in a form you can play.

We at FleshEatingZipper love – well, loved – LucasArts in its prime back in the nineties. What exists now is, unfortunately, a faint husk of that old form. One thing that could be said is that, as of recently, they had been working on a game like First Assault, one that looks and sounds exciting and because of uncertainties in the realm of Lucasfilm (sans, y’know, Lucas) the output of everything at LucasArts is still up in the air.

First Molyneux, Now Garriott: Why Are Rich Gaming Pioneers Kickstarting Games?

Minimize risk by making other people pay to develop your game, I suppose.

When Peter Molyneux – gaming legend responsible for Populous, Black & White, Fable, Curiosity, etc., – stepped up to ask gamers to fund his already-in-production god game Godus, I was taken aback. Here was this legendary developer, one who could move the Earth and channel the seas, asking gamers for the funds to produce his game. His Kickstarter went over just fine, so now Ultima creator Richard Garriott, known to many through his avatar Lord British, has followed up with his own Kickstarter for his already-in-production Ultima-like Shroud of the Avatar. But why?

Arena.Net Keeps Pushing Out New Content For Guild Wars 2

Not rain, nor sleet, nor snow, nor hordes of fire-wielding Charr will stop us from making more content…

Ever since its release in November, Guild Wars 2 has been going through a lot of changes within the first 6 months of introduction. I’m not sure whether this is a frantic push to keep things interesting or sheer boredom on the dev teams, but they’re going for the gold it seems. The current living story event, Flame & Frost has been adding more and more content since January, currently sitting at the half-way point in the story.

EA Explains SimCity Server Issues, Offers Free Game

That traffic jam is like the servers at EA.

With the ongoing clusterfuck that is the SimCity launch, EA is trying to make up for it by giving everyone who has started or tried to play SimCity between launch day and the 18th. No word on what games you get to choose from but it will be a “PC download game from the EA portfolio.” On the 18th EA will be emailing users instructions on how to redeem this free game. So what about the server issues? Read the rest of this article…

Tomb Raider (PC) Review: Good To Go Or Does It Blow?

Lara’s seen better days, that’s for sure!

Square Enix asked me to review Tomb Raider for the PC and, of course, I gladly accepted the chance to get my hands on one of the more anticipated titles of the year. We were really hot for this one at E3 and I’ve spent the whole year hoping that this was going to be as good as all of the trailers and emails and commercials made it out to be.

So I gave it a play through…And now, the answer to the question:

Did it suck, or was it good?

In Wake Of ‘SimCity’s Issues, City-Builder ‘Tropico 4’ Now 75% Off On Steam

In Wake Of ‘SimCity’s Issues, City-Builder ‘Tropico 4’ Now 75% Off On Steam

For the point, Kalypso.

At this point, Electronic Arts’ problems with SimCity don’t stop in the technical realm, but have now spread into the world of public relations. EA has told its partners to stop advertising the game, which is reminiscent of World of Warcraft‘s earliest days, and Amazon even stopped selling the game for a number of hours today. The less new people trying to buy or play SimCity at this point, the better. Kalypso is taking advantage of the situation by taking a whopping 75% off their Tropico 4 Collector’s Bundle, a plethora of content to satisfy any urban planning maniac until SimCity‘s servers decide to behave. For those unaware, Tropico 4 places you as the benevolent – or cruel – dictator of a fictional banana republic. Not only will you be laying down roads and infrastructure, but you’ll also be making clever social decisions that will make your people swoon over your visage or fear your very name. Like any Steam sale though, you might be spending the whopping $9.99 to not play the game, which is probably not much of a different fate than SimCity at the moment.

‘Back To Bed’ Is A Surreal 3D Puzzle Game With A Modest Kickstarter

‘Back To Bed’ Is A Surreal 3D Puzzle Game With A Modest Kickstarter

It looks super cool, I’ll hand it that.

Do you remember playing Rocko’s Modern Life on the Super Nintendo? In it, you guided your faithful, and completely stupid, dog Spunky through a bunch of levels based on the show, removing obstacles and disabling villains so that he could reach the end. It was a frustrating experience, but one I’ll honestly never forget. An equally unforgettable experience with the same premise, although not quite as frustrating based on the demo, is Back To Bed, a new Danish indie game that’s looking to raise a mere $12,000 to make their game real with levels crafted out of Europe’s greatest surrealistic paintings.
