Installing Firefox? Watch Out, It Might Be Government Spyware

Don’t be messin with Firefox!

A UK-based company, Gamma International, is using the Firefox brand to disguise its FinFisher IT Intrusion software, all the way down to the copyright attribution. This not only allows the government to spy on the unsuspecting user who installed it, but also snoop out their encrypted data and remotely deploy software. Read the rest of this article…

New Theatrical Movie Releases: Opening April 26, 2013

Yo, Mark is looking totally swole.

Well, kind of a dull week for moviegoers. There are a bunch of limited release movies that you’ll have to check your local theater for, but probably won’t be available unless you’re living in LA or New York. The award for thiss week’s biggest and most widely marketed movie goes to Pain & Gain, starring Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson. It’s an action-comedy set in the nineties with the stars playing personal trainers. Oh, and Michael Bay directed it. Read the rest of this article…

Zach Braff Jumps on the Kickstarter Bandwagon to Fund ‘Wish I Was Here’

Zach & Adam Braff, the current team.

Attributed directly to Rob Thomas’ successful Veronica Mars Kickstarter, Zach Braff, known most famously as the dude in Scrubs, launched a Kickstarter for his new project, Wish I Was Here. Already at $1.2 million with 29 days to go, I don’t think he is going to have any issues coming up with the $2 million he is asking for. Read the rest of this article…

NYC’s Proposed Tobacco Age Sales Hike Won’t Prevent New Smokers

That’s damn near $1 per cigarette!

This is dumb; the entire argument has no merit. Well, okay, let me back up. If you haven’t heard yet, New York City officials proposed today that the age to buy tobacco products should be raised from 18 to 21. That’s right: the age to buy, not possess or consume, which would still be 18. Natalia Project Helps To Protect Human Rights Activists With Wrist-Bound Locators

The bracelet is simple and can easily be disguised.

It seems we only hear bad news in regards to human rights activists, as in the case of Natalia Estemirova, who was abducted in Chechnya on July 15, 2009 and brutally murdered. A Swedish organization, Civil Rights Defenders, went hard to work to solve the issue of protecting activists and it looks like they may have come up with some technology that will do just that. Verizon CEO Says They Can Drop Contracts Too, If Customers Demanded It

Where do I demand this?

At a press event today, Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam said his company would be willing to drop contracts if customers demanded it. This, of course, is a response to T-Mobile becoming the “Uncarrier” by not requiring a contract for people that pay full price for phones up front. Read the rest of this article…

Rdio Introduces Vdio, A New Video Service Like iTunes, Amazon or Vudu

Free credit, OMG!

Let me start by saying that I’m a subscriber to Rdio. I love it. That it has one of the best UIs around coupled with the fact that it was the first web app of its kind on the block, besting Spotify, MOG, Pandora, etc., allowed me to really take a liking to it. But it gets even better: today Rdio introduced their sister site, Vdio, which is also like iTunes, Amazon, Vudu, Xbox Video, etc. Since I’m a subscriber, I have access to the service now.
