Movie Review: I Am Number Four

Movie Review: I Am Number Four

I’m not entirely sure where this rash of films adapted from youth-oriented novels came from, but it’s been a mixed bag so far. For every Harry Potter, there’s a Golden Compass, for every Diary of a Wimpy Kid, there’s a City of Ember, and for every Chronicles of Narnia film there’s another, more lousy Chronicles of Narnia film. Although I read books sometimes, I needed Wikipedia to understand that this is supposed to be the starting point of a six book/film arc, but it’s hardly a great beginning at all. In fact, I Am Number Four is pretty lousy, like a Narnia film.

Book Review: Dan Dunn’s “Living Loaded: Tales of Sex, Salvation and the Pursuit of the Never-Ending Happy Hour”

Until now, I hadn’t really pondered the professional drinker. I’m not talking about wine tasting here (although it is pointed out as one of Dan’s weak points) but rather the stone-livered specimen who travels across the country exclusively to sample the wares. Recommended by the It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia Facebook page (good lookin’ out!) it only took a brief, hilarious sample on Amazon before it was in my Kindle app.

Movie Review: Rambo (2008)

The following review was written by guest contributor Sam.

Directed, written, produced and starring Sylvester Stallone, Rambo makes for an interesting movie in its own right, but there’s a handsome benefit in having seen the previous movies in the series before diving in here.

The Criterion Collection Rolling out on Hulu

I’ve never heard of The Criterion Collection but they sell and distribute “important classic and contemporary films.” Good news for Hulu because they are launching with 150 films from the collection and most of those are going to be available for Hulu Plus subscribers. Also did I mention they were going to be commercial free? It looks like Hulu may have something to draw in more subscribers because The Criterion Collection’s website lets you stream these movies for $5 a pop or you can pay $7.99/month and watch them whenever you want.

So what movies can you expect to find in the collection? Read the rest of this article…

The Big Bang Theory – Smart Is The New Sexy

As I mentioned on the podcast, I’ve been watching the show “The Big Bang Theory” and, let me tell you, I’ve been getting a big kick out of the nerd / hot chick antics.

For those of you who haven’t seen it, this is a show about a bunch of nerds who have a hot chick living across the hall from them. She manages to deliver a bit of the real world into their fantasy and physics filled lives and the results are often pretty damned funny. There’s a quick video after the jump.

Parenthood: Not Just For 14-Year Old Girls. Wait, Hang On…

I still can’t tell you why I started watching this show. I have no idea. This is a show for people who love Grey’s Anatomy, not Babylon 5. Or is it? Strangely enough, after getting past the initial, seemingly pretentious marketing, I fell in love with the Braverman family. Of course, it might’ve also been because Erika Christensen is hot.
