‘Age of Empires II HD Edition’ Is Pure Nostalgia Wrapped In A Shaky Package
I’ll give them this: Hidden Path Studios is doing a service to those who remember the Golden Era of PC gaming by doing their best to bring back a truly classic real-time strategy game. If it were perfect, I’d say go buy it right friggin’ now, but I don’t know if I can do that. Not yet, anyway.

Dead Island: Riptide (Xbox 360) Review: More Zombie Bashing Is More Better
Get ready for some shooting and plenty of hacking and slashing.
Dead Island was a big late-summer surprise when it dropped two years ago. Sure, it had a flashy CG trailer and it had been in development for half a decade, but expectations were pretty dim for this game by Techland, published by small-time publisher Deep Silver. Well, the game sold out and did so for a while. It had its issues, but its core zombie-bashing gameplay, complete with four-player co-op, was solid enough to overlook them. Dead Island: Riptide doesn’t provide any surprises this time around, but its refinements and the sheer largeness of its content will be plenty for fans and newcomers alike.
‘SimCity’ 2.0 Patch Detailed, Fixes Everything Except The Game’s Problems
Don’t worry, you’ll still be able to build Megabumtropolis One here.
The tragedy that is SimCity continues with Maxis’ announcement of their major 2.0 patch, which will arrive on April 22nd. There was some optimism, now nearly two months after the game’s release, that this major fix would resolve many of the core issues with the game. Nope. See every last tweak below.
‘Edge’ Trademarker Gets Slapped Down In Court, Millions Of ‘Mirror’s Edge’ Fans Rejoice
lolwut?
Remember an (awesome) little game called Mirror’s Edge? Did you know that game, among others, caused quite a ruckus because some idiot went and trademarked the word “edge” in a number of forms, including “The Edge”, “Gamer’s Edge”, “Edge” and “Cutting Edge”, then claimed a bunch of people and companies owed him in the form of damages for trademark infringement.
Yeah, that happened.
‘Surgeon Simulator 2013′ Launches Tomorrow, Has Frickin’ Lasers
Yes. Yes! YES!
As a Game Jam-conceived browser game, Surgeon Simulator 2013 was merely a proof of concept. Developed in two days by experienced game developers, you QWOPed your way through the delicate procedure of replacing a broken heart, hoping not to kill the patient along the way. As a retail release, Surgeon Simulator 2013, may be the end-all, be-all of gaming history.
‘Minecraft’ Movie Is Coming, Far More Boring Than It Sounds
All hail the mighty church of Minecraft!
Believe it or not, Minecraft is really successful. Not only did it make Markus “Notch” Persson, the game’s creator, rich beyond imagination, it’s also a global phenomena. We like it a little bit, too. As such, Seven Stories Press will be publishing a book later this year that details the game’s creation and Notch’s upbringing called Minecraft: The Unlikely Tale of Markus “Notch” Persson and the Game that Changed Everything. Oh, and they’ve already sold the film rights. That’s cool.
Sacred Citadel (XBLA) Review: What’s Old Is Kinda New Again
Hacking and slashing and hacking!
It’s been a while since I’ve played a hack-and-slash game. Yeah, I even missed Castle Crashers. Coming out to fill some narrative space between the relatively obscure Sacred role-playing games, Citadel doesn’t require a study session to figure out what’s going on. Instead, all you need is a few friends (or not, if you’re one of those people) to fill in for some cooperative action as you beat, punch, and twirl your way through the game’s five acts.
Dragon’s Prophet (PC) Beta Preview: Yep, There Be Dragons Here
She likes to be out late, shake it on the dance floor. So does my human character.
Today I got to take a tour of Runewalker’s new MMO, Dragon’s Prophet, brought to American shores by Sony Online Entertainment, whom you may know of PlanetSide 2 and EverQuest fame. On first impression, those old familiar MMO waves crashed across the shores of my memory; clumps of players idled next to the town’s vital NPCs and exclamation marks hung over quest givers, but as they opened the game, I got to see what makes this game special.
‘Deus Ex: Human Revolution’ Devs Chat Up ‘Director’s Cut’, Wii U Gets Best Version
Everything’s had a second look, it appears.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution was my most-anticipated game of 2011 and while it was a solid title and one of my favorite experiences that year, it definitely had some opportunities for refinement. Well, as Eidos Montreal is chatting about below, the Director’s Cut on the Wii U will be the best version of the game.
Ubisoft Thinks We’re Ready For “Always Connected” Consoles
LOL #DEALWITHIT
In what I can only describe as an unbelievable stroke of jackassery, Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat has gone on record saying that he believes console owners are ready for hardware that requires always-on internet connections. I can only guess this happened very shortly after he took a rather sharp blow to the head with a large, heavy object.
