ESA Launches Digital Citizenship Program
Time to get your digital learn on!
The Entertainment Software Association and EverFi have launched the Digital Living Project, a new initiative which will provide an instructional platform at no cost to taxpayers or the school districts in which they are used. The program is currently in use at 20 schools in the Los Angeles area, including Westchester Enriched Sciences Magnet High School and will be expanding in to more schools in 2013.
Your Dream Arcade, In Your Home? YUP!
Arcadey goodness, in your home! Sign me up!
So, I got this press release today about arcade games and Valentine’s Day. It was really just a sales pitchy kinda thing in which they were letting me know that a company that makes arcade machines (the kind where you can play like 150 different games) is having a super-mega sale on their wares, for Valentine’s Day.
I read the release, went to the site, looked around for a bit, and then I saw it… choirs of angels sang out and a magical light shone down upon me from the heavens.
Verizon And Android 4.0 Broke My Phone
GOOD GAME, Verizon…Good game.
Yeah, so I’ve been waiting for the Android 4.0 update for like…forever. It seems like my phone, the HTC Thunderbolt, is the last phone on the face of the planet to get the update. Now I wish they hadn’t given it to me at all because my phone is basically a paperweight since the update dropped a few days ago.
Rise Of The Triad – Production Diary, Screenshots And Concept Art
This is shaping up to be a very pretty game.
I love PR people. Really I do. I deal with them a LOT and they nearly always seem to be willing to go out of their way to make sure they’re putting a smile on your face while they do all the things you need them to do in order to help you do all of the things they need you to do.
That may not have made sense to you, but it makes PERFECT sense to me.
So when I get an email from a PR person, which starts out with
It’s Friday, sucka!
As usual, here’s the skinny on all the phat news (yeah, I said “phat” for the first time since 1995)
I giggle a little…Because that, truly, helps make my day…Oh, and keep reading for some cool news about Rise of the Triad!

Sharkoon Xtatic Pro 5.1 Headset Review
The name may sound funny but this headset is no joke.
Several weeks back, we reviewed a couple of headsets from Turtle Beach, which we were really impressed with; Specifically the Sierra and Tango headsets from the black ops series. A couple of weeks ago, I was sent the Sharkoon 5.1 Xtatic Pro gaming headset and I’ve had a lot of time to put it through the paces.
So how did it do?
Rob’s Tech School Part 4 – Audio (Part 2)
The beauty of sound
Yesterday I started a 2 part lesson on audio and what all those goofy terms that get thrown at you by all of the equipment manufacturers mean, as part of a bigger series on technical stuff, where I talk about frame rates, video resolutions, audio goodness, etc. I talked about frequency response and dynamic range and told you that today I would be talking about dB (decibels) and signal to noise ratio.
Both of these things are pretty important as well because they are constantly used when giving performance stats on audio hardware.
So what do they mean?
Rob’s Tech School Part 3 – Audio (Part 1)
Music to my ears
Signal to noise ratio…Frequency response…Surround Sound…dB…Dynamic range.
These are all terms you’re going to come into contact with when you’re out and about looking at any kind of audio gear. From headsets to speakers to ear buds, you’re going to see this stuff all the time. Since most people aren’t audiophiles or trained audio engineers, I figured I’d take a few minutes to put something together which covers just what in the hell these terms mean, and how they relate to what we want when we’re out lo0king to spend our hard-earned dough.
Rob’s Tech School Part 2 – The Resolution Evolution
Oh dear…What’s it all mean?
480? 720p? 1080I? 4:3? 16:9?! What’s it all MEAN?!
It’s time to talk about screen resolutions and what they mean to us! The information in this article will hopefully help keep you from getting swindled by a crafty salesman who is trying to get you to buy something which doesn’t match your wants or needs, much like what a trickster at my local Best Buy tried to pull on ME once!
Good thing I knew what was up, or I would have gotten ripped off.
Here’s what happened
Rob’s Tech School Part 1 – The Great Framerate Debate
Must…hit…5 million…FPS…
30 FPS, 60 FPS, 120 FPS, Vsync, tearing, flicker…
I have seen this topic come up an untold number of times on gaming and hardware forums over the years and in various message boards and the mods always end up locking it because the argument is old, played out and stupid. People have gotten so pissy over the framerate issue that, now, if you even bring it up it seems to be grounds for locking a thread. Now I’m going to take a moment to clarify the situation on framerates and how our eyes perceive moving images.
