Modern Warfare 3 Ad Condemned As ‘Hideous’ By Veteran, But He’s Way Off
In a recent editorial for The Atlantic, D.B. Grady, a former paratrooper and veteran of Afghanistan, tears into the centerpiece ad of Activision’s Modern Warfare 3 campaign. If you haven’t seen it (and we’ve included both ads after the break) it builds on last year’s Black Ops ads by featuring actor Sam Worthington teaching Jonah Hill the tricks of the trade when it comes to armed combat in hellish battlegrounds around the world. Grady posits that the ads are creating a false image of what being a soldier means, but Grady is missing the point of the ad entirely: it’s whole-cloth fantasy.
The Long, Slow Death Of Silicon Knights
Earlier this year, I wrote that Silicon Knights’ action-horror game Eternal Darkness was the best GameCube title ever made. I was actually indifferent to the game when I started playing it, but when my roommate became an observer, my appreciation went through the roof. There was something about its crafty gameplay and incredible narrative that won me over. “These guys are on to something,” I thought. Now nearly a decade later, it seems that the only thing that the Canadian game developer is on to is losing a lawsuit that has consumed most of the company’s essence for the past four years. Should they lose entirely, how much farther can founder Denis Dyack pull the company?
Mass Effect 3 Will Be Significantly More Difficult
Bioware has admitted that the final episode of its Mass Effect trilogy will be much more difficult than its predecessors, stating that “normal” mode in Mass Effect 3 will be as hard as “veteran” mode in the previous two releases.

Will Americans Be Nicer To The PSVita Than Japan Was?
“But N, there’s a supply shortage in Japan following their successful launch!” So after two booming days for Sony’s next-generation handheld after its debut in Japan, the PlayStation Vita’s sales fell by 78% week-over-week to nearly last place, behind the 3DS and the original PSP. While a shortage is implied, bear in mind that the Japanese audience has also been traditionally wired for first day/first week releases, which is how it’s been able to set such amazing entertainment records in those categories. A front-loaded release isn’t really out of the ordinary. The problem is: does the Vita have legs?
‘Grand Theft Auto III’ for Android – Game Review
It doesn’t feel like it’s been just over a decade since Grand Theft Auto III landed on the PlayStation 2 and went on to be the watershed game for 3D sandbox titles, make Rockstar hundreds of millions of dollars, and blah blah blah. Now that they’ve added support for PowerVR-enabled phones, I’m now finally able to get my hands on this former juggernaut. Like literally, my thumbs are touching the game itself. So how does it fare in its transition to mobile? Read on…
News From The Front: EA’s Sights Set Firmly On Blizzard’s MMO Market Share’s Head
It’s no secret, in fact we’ve talked about it here several times. EA and Activision are at war. Activision has had a strangle hold on the FPS genre for years with its Call Of Duty franchise yet EA keeps firing away at them, chipping away their market share with their up and coming Battlefield franchise.
Now, with the release one week ago of EA/BioWare’s MMO hit Star Wars: The Old Republic, EA looks to be taking even more market share from Activision by logging huge numbers of subscriptions.

‘Dead Space’ For Android – Game Review
I’ve been on the rampage trying to find games to load up on my phone. Tiny Tower came first, but with Joshua Topolsky jabbering on about Dead Space for Android, I decided I should give it a shot. I’ve always been interested in the franchise, but aside from 45 minutes with the original game after a Steam sale, I haven’t put any time into it at all, which is something I feel guilty about because it looks like a genuinely great sci-fi series from one of the gaming industry’s most unoriginal companies. The game’s format on mobile doesn’t lend to much psychological tension, but it’s a solid shooter that’s worth your money.

Star Wars : The Old Republic – Space Missions Primer
Well, we’re getting to the point that most of the people who picked up SWTOR for the holidays should be getting or about to get their space ships. Of course, with great power comes great responsibility and as part of that you’re going to be expected to do space missions to help out your side.
Of course I’m flying for the Empire (I have a couple of characters who have ships at this point) and I’m enjoying the hell out of the space missions so I’ve recorded a couple and present one of them here, for you to have a look at what it’s like.

From Star Wars: The Old Republic To EVE Online – Keeping MMOs In The “Friend Zone”
In my mind, 30-day trials for massive multiplayer games are perfect. It gives me a lot of the time I need to get into a game, plum its depths, and then formulate a reason to never play it again. Why? Because MMOs can easily sponge up every moment I have available. If I fall in love with one, we have to be together forever. The best solution is to keep these games at a distance, and refuse the will to commit to them. Afraid to commit to an MMO? You’re not the only one.
