EA And Activision: Things Are Getting Ugly.

EA releases SWTOR, Activision calls it an affront and is now suing EA for $400 million.

Looks like the gaming wars are heating up even more!

(Clarification, due to apparent confusion over the opening statement : The lawsuit relates to EA allegedly luring programmers away from Activision, not to the release of SWTOR)

‘Tiny Tower’ For Android Review – Where Are The Good Strategy Games?

‘Tiny Tower’ For Android Review – Where Are The Good Strategy Games?

Yes, yes, it’s been out for iOS for at least an age, but with its recent introduction to Android owners, of which there are quite a few more, it’s time to give Tiny Tower a look-over. In part because of its popularity and also because its average hardware spec is maturing, we’re finally starting to see a mini-Renaissance of Android games, most of which are iOS ports, but if you’ve never had an iPhone, hey, who cares right? I’ve been dying for a good strategy game on my phone and Tiny Tower is very much a Zynga-style game (of which we have played several), but like Paradise Island for mobiles, it sheds the social responsibilities of those games while maintaining all of the irritating idiosyncracies and shallow gameplay.

Star Wars: The Old Republic – SWTOR Rap

A few days ago, Dan Bull fired me off another email and told me that he’d dropped a new rap, inspired by the new EA/BioWare hit “Star Wars: The Old Republic“. Knowing some of the stuff Dan has dropped in the past (Like his epic Skyrim Rap), I popped on over to his youtube page and had a look.

Buying Star Wars: The Old Republic Via EA’s Origin Service Is Tragic

Buying Star Wars: The Old Republic Via EA’s Origin Service Is Tragic

Imagine a thing that’s great. Awesome, even. Now imagine an agent that works to damper that, to make it worse, to totally destroy its goodness, like rain on your wedding day or a free ride when you’ve already paid. I’ve talked about how digital distribution was the magnificent future of video gaming, in which new games could be acquired on Day One without needing to visit a Large Room Full Of Boxes. On impulse, I decided that I should buy Star Wars: The Old Republic, because our good pal Rob recommended it, and since I could only acquire it digitally through EA’s “new” Origin download service, I figured that was a good start. Little did I realize what sort of hazy wormhole I’d have to trip through in order to acquire the game I paid for.

Star Wars: The Old Republic Guide – Companions And Affection (Warning: Spoilers)

Star Wars: The Old Republic Guide – Companions And Affection (Warning: Spoilers)

One of the interesting Mechanics used in SWTOR is the inclusion of “companions” to the game. Now, when I say “companions”, I’m not talking about the kind that cost $400.00 an hour and require you to pay up front, I’m talking about the kind who travel the galaxy with you and do all of the tasks you’re just too busy to deal with.

One of the dynamics of the companion system is “affection” which relates to how much your companion likes you. The more they like you, the better they perform and more likely they are to succeed when given tasks. If they don’t like you at all, they’re unlikely to want to work too hard and that can be very frustrating.

It is for this reason that we have assembled this guide. To help you, the player, ensure that your companions love and respect you, and will do their utmost to help you succeed.

Star Wars: The Old Republic Guide – Datacron Locations

Star Wars: The Old Republic Guide – Datacron Locations

Star Wars : The Old Republic (SWTOR) has tons of hidden goodies and extras. Today we’re going to be talking about datacrons.

Datacrons are objects in the game which will boost your stats, permanently, for no cost or negative effect. These objects are found laying around in various places and on different planets so finding them can be a bit tough.

For that reason, we are proud to present you all with a list of the known datacrons, and their locations.

We will be doing this alphabetically, by planet. This information has been sourced from myriad locations, including IGN, various WIKIS, the SWTOR guide written by Dealenn from the guild Liberi Fatali and my own experiences during testing and playing the game, because NOBODY has this all in one place, at this point, so if there are any inconsistencies, please let us know and we’ll do our best to fix it.

Enjoy!

The Sims FreePlay Review (iOS)

The Sims FreePlay Review (iOS)

I like to think that evil video game publishers meet once a month to discuss different possibilities on how to ruin fun. One brilliant idea they came up with is free-to-play, a concept where consumers don’t pay for the game up front, but have the ability to purchase items in-game. It sounds all hunky-dory, but when they mess with my favorite franchises like The Sims, I tend to get a little PMSy. Check out the review of The Sims FreePlay after the break!

Star Wars: The Old Republic – The Review. Includes The Story, So Far.

Star Wars: The Old Republic – The Review. Includes The Story, So Far.

I think that in order to understand what is going on in Star Wars : The Old Republic it is important that we understand the back story. The events leading up to the game and the time period it takes place in are important because those things also explain why certain thing are the way they are and why the story is – or ISN’T – any good.

Those things effect, in my mind, the plausibility of review scores because, let’s face it, if the game looks good but the story is bunk, that’s a big dent in a review.

So I present to you the review of Star Wars : The Old Republic, along with a very condensed version of the story that got us to where we are now…And even an explanation of where, exactly, we are!

Xbox Live Arcade Needs A Humble Bundle

Xbox Live Arcade Needs A Humble Bundle

I really wish Microsoft would get its head out of its butt regarding pricing on Xbox Live. Yeah, we get that you make a lot of money on it, but the draconian method by which you determine how items are priced in it prevent some really cool things from happening. Stuff like the Humble Bundle.
