Square Enix Signs Long Term Agreement For Unreal Engine 3…AND 4!

Chocolate and peanut butter, Sqaure Enix and Unreal Engine. Yeah. It’s like that.

In the latest news from Epic Games, gladly signaling that they didn’t simply roll up the carpets and pull the shutters closed after the departure of Cliffy B from their ranks, the announcement has come that Square Enix has signed a multi-game licensing deal for Unreal Engine 3 and the upcoming Unreal Engine 4.

Moar Everquest 2? YEP!

Good old Everquest II. I remember moving from Ultima Online to Everquest back in the day and being blown away at the first person, 3D perspective and the amazing sound and graphics and the gameplay model. I remember thinking “what could anyone ever do top top this?”. I remember thinking I was witnessing the pinnacle of gaming.
Later, other MMORPG’s came out and started to take bits and pieces of the market away. Then Sony Online Entertainment announced Everquest II and a bunch of the people I worked with pissed themselves with giddy anticipation.
Here we are, 8 years later, and Sony Online Entertainment is about to drop its NINTH expansion.
Good lord, that’s a lot of code.

The folks over at Extra Life, who run a charity in conjunction with the children’s miracle network, are ramping up for their annual charity gaming marathon, which begins tomorrow – October 20th, 2012 – and will run for 24 hours.

The Entertainment Software Association Foundation (ESAF) has awarded 30 female and minority students, including high school seniors and currently enrolled full-time college students, scholarships which will be used to attain degrees in video-game related fields.

Fallout Meets Team Fortress? OK!

Today I got a chance to sit down and play 2 dawn’s new title Ravaged – which is in beta – and spend some time with the developers getting a feel for the game. After a couple of hours of lone-wolf play time I hopped in with the group from 2 dawn to get down team-style and put some bullets in some dev faces.
