Comedy Actors I’d Like to See More Of: Ed Helms

Ed Helms – It is a travesty that most people only know Ed Helms as Stu from the Hangover films. As a staunch fan of The Office (US), for me Helms has been one of the stand-out performers since his debut in season 3, as world class suck-up Andy Bernard. His character evolution, from his original, angry salesman who enjoys suckling from the power teat, to his relationship with nemesis-turned-ally Dwight, to his cowardly, don’t-rock-the-boat office nice guy fawning after the receptionist, Helms has developed his character seamlessly, becoming one of the most loved characters in the history of comedy television. (Did I also mention he went to Cornell?) Read the rest of this article…

Lucasfilm Honoring The Tuskegee Airmen – Wells Fargo Sponsoring Film “Red Tails”

If you don’t know anything about the “Tuskegee Airmen”, or about what they did for this country, you may be a little bit surprised when you start doing some research or if you go watch this film.

The Tuskegee Airmen were a group of fighter pilots from World War II who flew in the 332nd Fighter Group and the 477th Bombardment Group in the U.S. Army Air Corps who gained a great deal of fame due to the (disputed) legend that they never lost a bomber when they were on escort duty…And also for the fact that they were all African Americans who, until the creation of the 332nd, had never been allowed to fly in combat.

‘Haywire’ Review

Just think of it as a small action film. Would you give Steven Soderbergh (the Ocean’s films, The Informant!, Contagion) a hundred million dollars to build an action film around gorgeous MMA fighter Gina Carano? No, probably not. So here we are with Haywire: a stylish spy thriller redux with a lot of MMA-style fights. Does that tickle your fancy?

“Unsupervised” Unimpressive

You’d think an animated series that features the voices of Justin Long, Kristen Bell, Fred Armisen (SNL), David Hornsby (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Romany Malco (40 Year Old Virgin), and the gang from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia helming the project would be a dream come true. Even with all of that talent, Unsupervised expels its boring mess of teenage desperate jokes we heard back in high school.

George Lucas is Retiring

THIS is the reason Lucas needs to Retire, not because of a Based-on-a-true-story Movie about black pilots

According to the Telegraph Lucas is retiring based on reactions to his latest movie Red Tails. He tells the Telegraph,

“I figured if I could get the prints and ads paid for by the studios that they would release it. I showed it to all of them and they said ‘No. We don’t know how to market a movie like this’.

“It’s because it’s an all black movie. There’s no major white roles in it at all. It’s one of the first all black action pictures ever made.”

‘EAMES: The Architect And The Painter’ Review

If you think today of a legendary slightly egotistical designer who sought perfection and whose work influenced entire industries, you’d probably think of Steve Jobs. This would be wrong because Steve Jobs wasn’t a designer, however keen his eye was for the craft. Charles and Ray Eames essentially crafted the look of the 1950s and 1960s, an era popularized by TV’s Mad Men, through ingenious design. But first, they started with chairs.

The Expendables 2 is Going to Suck Thanks to Chuck Norris

You know there is a love hate relationship when it comes to Chuck Norris, I hate the WOW commercials with him in them but I love Chuck Norris facts. I hate when Chuck Norris facts get over done but I love Sidekicks! I hate the WOW commercials with him in them (said it twice because I mean it) but I love singing along to the Walker Texas Ranger theme song! Read the rest of this article…

‘Gentlemen Broncos’ Is The Worst Movie I’ve Seen This Year

‘Gentlemen Broncos’ Is The Worst Movie I’ve Seen This Year

After watching Gentlemen Broncos, I felt like hero Benjamin about two-thirds of the way through as he stumbles out of a screening for the amateur production of his book, Yeast Lords, and vomits into a trash can. Benjamin submitted the book some time earlier at a writing camp to gain the attention of his literary hero, science fiction auteur Doctor Chevalier (Jemaine Clement), who, short a hit novel, steals Benjamin’s work and is now making millions through plagiarism. Throughout the film, Benjamin, trying to be a nice guy, gets walked over as others take advantage of him. Ladies and gentlemen, I’m here to tell you that this film has taken advantage of me in my humble attempt to give the Hess’s a rebound shot. They completely failed. Now it’s 4AM and I have to deliver a receipt of the time I wasted.

‘Napoleon Dynamite’ TV Review

‘Napoleon Dynamite’ TV Review

I mentioned on our recent Caucus that I wasn’t turned away from the hype that Napoleon Dynamite got when it washed upon the population a few years ago. Everyone remembers the lines, the quirky characters, and the desolate Idaho setting, but what kept the movie fresh was its distinctive slow-paced humor. Since no one from the original film has had a career since its mid-00s limelight (Jim Heder continued to be Jim Heder, the married director/writer/producer Hess duo went on to produce Nacho Libre and Gentlemen Broncos, both relative failures) it makes sense that they would roll back to stock for another run at a regular paycheck. To its credit, it almost works.
