Omni 360-Degree Treadmill Is The Ultimate Oculus Rift Accessory

It’s a Kickstarter product for your Kickstarted product.

I honestly didn’t know that omni-directional treadmills existed until just a few weeks ago, but seeing one in motion, they seem like a necessary component of any Oculus Rift/virtual reality experience. Who wants to be in a virtual world when all of your movement is restricted to moving a joystick on a controller or a mouse? Enter the Omni: a Kickstarter campaign for such a thing that has no moving parts. So, naturally, it would hit its Kickstarter goal in 3.5 hours.

Zynga Lays Off 18% Of Its Workforce, Plus 5 Reasons Why They Suck

OMGFIRED

Well, I heard a nasty rumor today that Zynga, the mega-giant social games developer, laid off a massive 18% of its total workforce. That’s a lot of people for a company who filed for over a billion dollars in its IPO offering and had an IPO value of $9 billion. Seems their stock has been dropping like a drunk cheerleader’s panties and they had to drop some weight to stay afloat.

Oh, they also closed down an entire company.

I Never Asked For This: 4 Reasons Why People Should Stop Hating On ‘Deus Ex: The Fall’

Oh, it’s not that bad.

Panic! After a small tease yesterday, Square Enix has unveiled Deus Ex: The Fall, an… iPad/iPhone game? Yeah. Turns out fans were none too pleased about the announcement and took to every possible vessel (including YouTube comments!) to vent their frustration. But people should chill. As a long-time Deus Ex fan, it’s time to buckle down and explain to peeps why this is going to be a worthy addition to the franchise.

10 Steam Games I’ve Purchased And Never Played

A store full of wonderful games to play and no time to play them!

I, like many of you, am supremely guilty of napping up games off Steam during their frequent discounts. It’s so easy! You see the highlighted, discount price and the transaction that follows is frictionless. Unfortunately, I’ve acquired so many of these games that a guilt has mounted and hopefully by airing my sins, I can begin my journey toward redemption. It’s time to unveil the victims of my crimes of passion!

5 Things Vanilla Minecraft Needs To Have

You can’t tell the image quality because it’s already 8bit, hahaha!

Minecraft vanilla is great and all, but it’s missing some things that should be core features and honestly don’t understand why they aren’t. Everything I’m about to talk about can be achieved with mods, but I shouldn’t have to be a server administrator to run a multiplayer server or pay high fees to run a Minecraft server. Hey Take-Two, America Is PRIME MMO Territory!

Hey Take-Two, America Is PRIME MMO Territory!

Is there a market for MMO games in the U.S.?

A few days ago I read an article in which Take-Two Interactive’s CEO – Strauss Zelnick said that America is not a good market for MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) games and that they would be focusing all of their MMO efforts in other countries. Of course, all of the major media outlets like Polygon, Joystiq, The Escapist, Gamespot etc… immediately jumped all over this story and started leg-humping Take-Two for a few quotes and scraps of knowledge, but when I read about it, I just facepalmed.

Penny Arcade Turns 15, These Are Their 15 Funniest Comics

Ominous.

I doubt Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik would realize a decade and a half ago that their quirky, immature antics, laid out in a series of JPEGs, would inspire thousands of other comics, build an empire worth millions and earn them untold accolades. While I was only reading the comic for fourteen of those years, I like to think I have a firm grasp on their best offerings. Timed conveniently with the wind-down of their Strip Search web series, I went back through the archives and highlighted the very best. If you have some of your own, be sure to drop them in the comments below.

5 Things That Won’t Be Revealed At E3

There’s plenty to see at the big show, but plenty you won’t see…

We’re less than a week out from E3 and lots of rampant speculation has shot out amongst the crowds as to what we’ll see when the conferences begin on Monday morning. There’ll be plenty of information to sift through (and we’ll be helping!), but there will definitely be things we won’t be seeing, so don’t hold your breath. Here are six of those things.

Dear Over-Qualified ‘Halo 4’ Contractor, Stop Complaining About Grunt Work

QA people unite! Destroy the orb that holds you back!

Dear Nathan (RC) Peters,

I read your op-ed over at Kotaku this morning and I was intrigued. I don’t care much for The Trenches as a comic, but the anecdotes they feature from current and former QA staffers are incredibly interesting; I even know a few. I just have a passion about the adventures of the line-level jockey. That I love games helps things. People are calling you out for your editorial, which amounts to it being little more than sour grapes, but let’s face it: they’re right. There’s simply nothing tragic about your story. Take it from me.

Robotoki Employee Triggers Panic Alarm, Gets Office SWATted

Robotoki Employee Triggers Panic Alarm, Gets Office SWATted

Scary! Credit to Polygon, natch.

I’d fire the guy. “I’m Robert Bowling, former creative lead at Infinity Ward,” I would say, “and you’re coming back to the office to throw all your shit in a box because you’re fired. …no, I won’t write a reference letter.” I’d tell this curious, unnamed game designer at Robotoki that he was done for and his act was incredibly stupid and could’ve gotten someone injured or worse. So what did this guy do? He pressed the company’s newly-installed panic button.
