Jimmy Fallon Rumored to Take Over ‘Tonight Show’ In New York, Replace Leno

Fallon doing a little dance.

I guess Jimmy Fallon is outgrowing Johnny Carson’s old studio because NBC is currently building him a new one in Rockefeller Plaza. Rumors are spreading that this new studio isn’t for moving Late Night to, but for when Fallon takes over The Tonight Show.

End Of An Era: Woman Still Needs To Pay $222,000 For Illegally Downloading 24 Songs

Seven years after the fact, Jammie Thomas-Rasset is having to pay up.

In that pocket of time between the demise of Napster and the rise of services like iTunes, Zune, and Spotify that made legally acquiring music super easy, the RIAA (or Recording Industry Association of America, the front of the music industry) was on the warpath. Using special techniques and the assistance of ISPs, the RIAA brought lawsuits against individuals caught downloading musically. The first to fight the RIAA’s proposed $3,500 settlement was Jammie Thomas-Rasset, who was told to pay up today when the Supreme Court declined to hear her case.

‘The Incredible Burt Wonderstone’ Review: A Will Ferrell Movie Without Will Ferrell

‘The Incredible Burt Wonderstone’ Review: A Will Ferrell Movie Without Will Ferrell

Not pictured: Will Ferrell

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone is Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby with Steve Carell, Steve Buscemi, and Jim Carrey standing in for Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, and Sacha Baron Cohen respectively. Really, that shouldn’t be such a bad thing. Will Ferrell’s comedies are remarkably stupid, but I’ve found most of them funny. Yet the result of Steve Carell’s attempt to make his own Will Ferrell movie is remarkably bland and laugh-free.

‘Strip Search’ Recap: Season 1, Episode 5 “Ducks”

Now with 100% more outdoors.

I’d been concerned about Strip Search’s sluggish pacing and short episodes so far, but today’s episode brought a big ol’ smile to my face. When the contestants are taken to a ravishing parking lot, the excitement only begins!

‘Smashed’ Review: A Sober Picture About Alcoholic Lovebirds

‘Smashed’ Review: A Sober Picture About Alcoholic Lovebirds

That’s not coffee in those cups.

Surely there’s an audience for writer/director James Ponsoldt’s indie film about a pair of alcoholics whose marriage is tested when one of them decides to enter alcoholics anonymous, I’m just not sure it’s me. I love genre movies: noirs, action flicks, horror movies, and science fiction extravaganzas. Every once in a while I’ll gush over a grim drama like Shame or The Last Ride, but I typically recoil from movies that attempt to depict life in all its bleakness. I go the movies to temporarily escape real life, not to be smothered by it. Smashed is a well-made, well-acted little movie that’s a little too realistic and a little too perceptive for my tastes.

‘Veronica Mars’ Movie Successfully Funded Through Kickstarter, Breaks Records

Just doing some surveillance.

Kristen Bell and Rob Thomas launched a Kickstarter campaign this morning to fund a Veronica Mars movie. It went viral and amassed $1 million in less than four hours, making it the fastest project to raise $1 million on Kickstarter ever. That’s not all: in less than twelve hours they raised the entire asking amount of $2 million.

The ‘Kick-Ass 2’ Red Band Trailer Is Here, Looks More… Kick-Assier?

These “super heroes” are back for more violent nastiness.

I had totally forgotten that this movie was on its way, but the red band trailer for Kick-Ass 2 is here for your viewing pleasure. It features all the same vibrant costumes that would make Joel Schumacher cry while blasting off expletives and kicking said ass. Naturally, I’ve included it below.

Hey Guys, The Dillinger Escape Plan Has A New Single, ‘Prancer’ [AUDIO]

I’m not sure where the prancer comes into the song, but I’m sure it’s buried in there.

Look, I’m not here to provide you with some in-depth breakdown about Dillinger Escape Plan or how their lead singer felt inspired by the current global socio-economic conflict while making this album – I don’t really know – I just wanted to post a new DEP single. What may come across as a wall of guitar-based noise was actually my cup of tea during some audio experimentation in my radio rock days. I wanted something a bit more extreme than Creed and Disturbed and DEP’s Miss Machine fulfilled my taste for something more extreme. Of course, I didn’t really fall in this direction very far and I didn’t care much for their follow-up Ire Works, but I’m really just kinda glad they exist. I’ve included their new single below!

Ken Levine Killed Gore Verbinski’s ‘Bioshock’ Movie

Ken Levine Killed Gore Verbinski’s ‘Bioshock’ Movie

Too-ta-loo.

It wasn’t long after Bioshock released in 2007 that rumors sailed about that a movie was being produced by Universal and to be directed by Gore Verbinski of Pirates of the Carribbean and The Ring fame. Even if you felt the game was somewhat underwhelming compared to Ken Levine’s previous work with System Shock 2, the idea of someone committing $150 million to bring that vision to the big screen is enough to get anyone giddy. Well, everyone except the people who were going to make it.
