‘Conan’ To Stay On TBS Until At Least November 2015
Confusingly amused?
Conan O’Brien’s ejection from The Tonight Show and re-found justification on TBS is one of the most bittersweet stories of the past few years. NBC wasn’t pleased with his inability to entertain The Tonight Show‘s geriatric audience and they booted him for it. It’s for that very same reason, his ability to generate tons of internet views amongst a younger audience, that TBS is keeping him around for a bit longer.
CBS Unveils Stephen King’s ‘Under The Dome’ Mini-Series, Reminds Me To Read Book Again
Yeah, you ain’t getting out, buddy. I don’t care if you have an owie-boo-boo.
I don’t read enough books to be one of those elite buggers that can claim ‘the book was better’ when said story transitions across media to TV or the silver screen. With the arrival of Stephen King’s Under The Dome, a mini-series that airs on CBS in June, I’ll finally get my chance to don that turtleneck and those thick-rimmed glasses unironically.
‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ Review: Almost a Good G.I. Joe Movie
This is what G.I. Joe is all about.
G.I. Joe: Retaliation is probably the closest any Hollywood studio has come to making a decent movie based on a line of toys. I skipped G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, the previous entry in this franchise, because it looked like a bunch of bullshit. Joes in mechanized suits battling nanomite-wielding Cobra agents? Bullshit. But that’s no surprise because the director of that movie, Stephen Sommers, is a bullshit director. Director Jon M. Chu’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation isn’t a good movie, but it proves that a legitimately decent G.I. Joe movie could be made one day.
Amazon Purchases Goodreads, Deal To Close In Next Few Months
It makes sense, really.
In a move that makes absolute complete sense, so much so that I wonder why they didn’t a long time ago, Amazon has purchased book logger Goodreads, which will soon join the likes of IMDB and Box Office Mojo in their ever-growing “entertainment utility” properties.
‘Strip Search’ Recap: Season 1, Episode 9 “You Are Your Brand”
Scott Kurtz arrives to troll the crowd.
This week’s challenge involved a lot of brain power and not a lot of art, which seems like it’d lead to a tame episode. Fortunately for us, the variety of responses here as the contestants are challenged to build their brand over social media was interesting as PVP’s Scott Kurtz graded them.
FX Renews ‘It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’ …Again
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why this is a bad idea.
It’s that time again. FX has renewed the offensive, yet (somewhat) funny It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia for a tenth season, giving the gang additional air time after the ninth season debuts this fall. As a fan of the first few seasons, I have incredibly mixed feelings. Will the creators be able to plow through two seasons of original material or will they have to pull from previous seasons again?
M83’s Theme For ‘Oblivion’ Released, Is Magical
What a terrible bridge design!
I’d mentioned a number of reasons I was interested in Joseph Kosinski’s post-apocalyptic action film Oblivion, but the biggest may be the fact that M83’s Anthony Gonzalez was commissioned to put the score together. Now we have the first (well, second, I’ll give you more in a sec) offspring of this marriage of passions and it is wonderful.
‘Prometheus’ Sequels Stuck Because No One Knows What Came Next [UPDATED]
A galaxy full of stars and nowhere to go.
I enjoyed Prometheus when it debuted last summer and I seem to enjoy it even more now. I could look over a few shortcomings in the narrative in my love for this first space-based science-fiction film in what feels like an era. Visually stunning, thematically interesting (if a little nebulous) with an amazing performance by Michael Fassbender as the Prometheus’ pet robot, the movie was striking to say the least. It’s no Alien, which is perfectly acceptable, but that might be part of the problem.
‘Dredd’ Producer Says “Probably Not” In Regards To Sequel
Don’t go away, Dredd!
There just aren’t enough Russells in the world. While he went to see Dredd in theaters (and loved it), Kelly and I waited until months later when it surfaced on VOD to see it (and loved it). Unfortunately, it appears the film’s poor box office showing has doomed any future installments in the series, as a producer on the film is not so confident about a sequel.
‘Independence Day’ Sequels Are Exactly What The World Needs
…but we’ve rebuilt!
While we’re talking about Roland Emmerich, the German director revealed that on the precipice of Independence Day‘s 3D re-release in July, back-to-back sequels are in the pipe, although probably further out than we think. Rumored for years, he and co-producer Dean Devlin apparently have had issues securing funding for such movies, which is straight-up bizarre because Independence Day is money.
