Childish Gambino “Royalty” Review

We’re big fans of Childish Gambino here at FleshEatingZipper and absolutely loved Camp, giving it a 10/10. It’s been eight months since we’ve gotten anything besides single from Gambino and I’ve been needing my fix. The other day Gambino dropped his latest mixtape, Royalty. Well what do we think of it? Welcome to Rekall Fantasy Sweepstakes Open Now

I normally wouldn’t write about sweepstakes but when I saw Total Recall was promoting with nine different opportunities I thought I would share it. You know the story of Total Recall, you can live a fantasy life of your choice and that is what these sweepstakes are all about. Rekall will give moviegoers the chance to live out their fantasies as a sports anchor, rock star, fashionista, professional videogamer, DJ or even a secret agent. Childish Gambino’s New Mixtape, Royalty, Just Dropped

Childish Gambino aka Donald Glover, known for his work as Troy in the hit comedy Community, just dropped his latest mixtape, Royalty. I’ve been a huge fan of Donald Glover from back when he was doing YouTube videos with his buddies as Derrick Comedy. It’s only been about eight months since Gambino dropped his debut studio album Camp, which we gave a perfect score to. Read the rest of this article…

The Amazing Spider-Man Review: At Least It’s Better Than Spider-Man 3

The Amazing Spider-Man Review: At Least It’s Better Than Spider-Man 3

The Amazing Spider-Man, Marc Webb’s slightly updated take on the origin of our favorite web-slinging superhero, hits theaters this week and it’s about as good as a complete retread of a ten year old movie can possibly be. The movie sports a darker color palette, improved CGI, bloodier action sequences, and a cast that is generally superior to Raimi’s crew (though no one in this movie rivals Willem Dafoe’s scenery chewing performance as the Green Goblin). And yet, as I watched The Amazing Spider-Man, I couldn’t shake the feeling that the story was completely obligatory and listless. It’s like everyone involved was really excited about the idea of a sequel—about eventually doing for Spider-Man what Christopher Nolan did for Batman with The Dark Knight—but they were all told to trudge through a perfunctory reboot before they could have any fun.

Linkin Park’s Living Things Review: One Small Step From Meteora, One Giant Stumble From ‘Suns’

Linkin Park may look older, but their music seems to have barely aged.

And it seems ugly, but it can get worse,
‘Cause even the blueprint is a gift and a curse
‘Cause once you have the theory of how the thing works
Everybody wants the next thing to be just like the first

– Mike Shinoda on “When They Come For Me”

Ted Review: The Citizen Kane of Pothead Teddy Bear Movies

Ted Review: The Citizen Kane of Pothead Teddy Bear Movies

Ted, the R-rated teddy bear movie starring Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, and Seth MacFarlane, hits theaters this week, and for what it’s worth, it is the best R-rated comedy starring a foul-mouthed, cocaine snorting stuffed animal ever made. The titular Ted lives up to the promise of Fox’s advertising blitz: He imbibes alcohol and drugs, bangs hookers, and insults children. MacFarlane milks all the dark, inappropriate comedy he can from the premise and adds just enough genuine heart to the mix that the film never begins to border on grotesque. Ted is the Citizen Kane of Pothead Teddy Bear movies.

Bullhead Review: A Man Everywhere Except Where It Counts

Director Michael R. Roskam makes his directorial debut with Bullhead, a fascinating if uneven film that centers on two enforcers within Belgium’s “hormone mafia.” Apparently the hormone mafia is a real thing, though I confess I’ve never heard of it. Regardless, Bullhead fails to work as a Scorsese-esque crime movie, but it is a compelling as a character study of two similarly damaged, violent men attempting to cope with a shared childhood tragedy.

Five Things A 24-Hour Star Trek Movie Marathon Will Teach You

Five Things A 24-Hour Star Trek Movie Marathon Will Teach You

This past weekend I engaged in some major crazy Star Trek movie marathoning. Most of them I hadn’t seen in almost a decade and never had I seen more than three consecutively. I lived (somehow), but by the time everything was over – well, any time you commit twenty-four hours to something like that – you get slightly disoriented and then, well, your weekend is over. It’s hard to recommend such an epic task, but I learned some things about Star Trek in doing so.

Shiny Toy Guns’ “Waiting Alone” – The First Single Off III – Is Available Now

It’s about bloody time. Many like myself have been waiting ages for the newest Shiny Toy Guns album – only their third ever – to finally emerge from the shroud of darkness and infiltrate our music players. The album, appropriately titled III, was on my watchlist last year when it was still slated for summer. Then it slid to fall. And then spring, and then we’re back at summer again and it’s still not out. They’re announcing the release date tomorrow, but it’s looking like Fall again now. Seriously guys, c’mon.
