Call of Duty is proving to be top dog for the fourth year in a row with the first 24 hours of worldwide sales being over $500 million. “With first day sales of over half a billion dollars worldwide, we believe Call of Duty is the biggest entertainment launch of the year for the fourth year in a row,” said Bobby Kotick, CEO, Activision Blizzard, Inc. If you followed my coverage of Star Wars: The Old Republic for any amount of time you’ll know a few things about the game. You’ll know that I played it, you’ll know that I gave it a really good score, pre-launch, and you’ll know that within a couple of months the 9 I gave it turned in to a 3 because they couldn’t manage their game at all.
You’ll also know that I quit playing the game, predicted it would go free to play and then, in very short order, it did so.

That’s right, for those who stood outside their retailer of choice and bought one of those first Xbox Live Starter Kits, the ones with the crappy Whacked! demo and an inaugural year of the service, it appears the software giant will be dropping the goods right on your doorstep. Oh, and if they miss me (or Johnny, who I believe is the only other FEZ staffer who’s held an account that long), someone’s throat will seriously get ripped.
