Building Oceana: The Verge’s Minecraft Pyramid – Week Three
This is part of an ongoing series chronicling the construction of Oceana, an epic Survival-built megastructure on the Vergecraft server. Be sure to check them all out!
Week One – Week Two – Week Three – Week Four – Week Five – Final Week
It’s hard to believe it’s already been twenty-one days since we started this project. My Minecraft statistics say I’ve put about nine and a half days on the Vergecraft server in the past two months, which by itself ranks as one of my most played games ever. After capping the pyramid last week, this last shift consisted of more menial, tedious tasks such as completing the infrastructure on the lower levels. That isn’t to say we didn’t accomplish some cool tasks in the other spaces, such as Happypizzza’s completion of the external glass casing along the entire first level (that’s a lot of glass!). Last week we only had two squares (of the total fifty-five) built and now we’re at roughly triple that. So what went down in Oceana this week? Read the rest of this article…
Spending Some Time With Sniper Elite V2 – Including Gameplay Video
Yes, folks, it’s time to talk about Sniper Elite V2 (The demo at least) and tell you what I thought about the upcoming sniper title from Rebellion and 505 Games.
Before I get into the meat of it I will tell you this: If you can’t handle gore – including flying chunks of bone, teeth, hair and eyeballs, you’re going to want to give this one a pass.
If you can hack it, read on!

The problem with building a megastructure so far from civilization — especially one whose first stages involve creating a framework of hundreds of similarly-designed tunnels, diagonals, and nodes — is that the project can be repetitive and alien. Many of Oceana’s levels aren’t really all that different from each other and until now, there was no real way to make your mark aside from an addition to the expanding (and still quite temporary) resource hut that serves as the external production facility. For the second week of Oceana’s development, it was time to turn an eye to making the massive pyramid something bigger than a work site: home.

I love that technology works. I don’t necessarily need to know how it does so at the silicon or mechanical level, I just find find these elaborate contraptions remarkable. I love schematics, drawings, maps of all shapes and sizes. Some of my favorite technologies are those that go behind megastructures: the true demonstration of man’s power over nature. Whether dams, cruise liners, or the Burj Khalifa, the sight of these coming together in deliberately planned phases is awe-inspiring. (Yeah, I watched TLC a lot before it became the Trading Spaces channel.) So when the opportunity arose to take my favorite game of the past five years and work with dozens of people to construct such a massive project, namely the Oceana Mega-City Pyramid, I took it up quick. As project lead on Oceana, it’s fair to say I’ve lost more than a few winks of sleep putting it together, but when it’s finished… well, the project already speaks for itself. So what did we accomplish in one week? Let me show you.

Mass Effect 3 – Rob Speaks Out. Also, Mini-Review
Let me start this off by saying that I have been a loyal, almost rabid fan of the Mass Effect franchise. Between the first and second installments I have played the games through at least 20 times.
When the third title released, I had high hopes for it. I was chomping at the bit to get out in the galaxy and whip some Reaper ass.
So what did I think about it? Continue on and find out.
Angry Birds Space Review: The Best One Since the Original
Like all the cool people in 2009, I was glued to my iPhone playing Angry Birds. The game where you MURDER pigs with birds that make cute sounds as they fly in the air was all the talk of the internet and if you didn’t have an iPhone, lol, you were not cool and playing Angry Birds. Rovio has made other version of Angry Birds but they have all been the same thing with just new birds and even though I bought them all, they were just a rehash of the original. That is until, Angry Birds Space came out. Read the rest of this article…
