Zach Braff Jumps on the Kickstarter Bandwagon to Fund ‘Wish I Was Here’
Zach & Adam Braff, the current team.
Attributed directly to Rob Thomas’ successful Veronica Mars Kickstarter, Zach Braff, known most famously as the dude in Scrubs, launched a Kickstarter for his new project, Wish I Was Here. Already at $1.2 million with 29 days to go, I don’t think he is going to have any issues coming up with the $2 million he is asking for. Read the rest of this article…
Sofia Coppola’s ‘The Bling Ring’ Presents A Weird Side Of Popular, Totally Has A Trailer!
They just wanted to be part of that world, y’know?
One of my guiltiest pleasures has been reading The Superficial for nearly six years now. Reading Fish’s patronizing commentary about the day-to-day paparazzi-shot lives of celebrities is hilarious beyond measure. As the cameras, court documents, and quotes come together, they often frame the existence of a Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian as a shallow exercise in fame. But what happens when you want into that lifestyle of permanent celebrity? What would you do? You’d start the Bling Ring and bring in Emma Watson as your star, of course.
New Movies/TV/Netflix Releases: April 23, 2013
She is holding the future.
Another week and another round of new movies and TV shows coming to retail to own like Gangster Squad (Emma Stone is so dreamy) or Jurassic Park (yay, 3D…). We also can’t forget the good stuff that came out this last week and is now available for streaming on Netflix either, especially Continuum! Read the rest of this article…
‘Strip Search’ Recap: Season 1, Episode 16 “Elimination #5”
Amy Fights With Tough Words, But How Can She Brush?
Has it seriously been a week and a half since the last controversial elimination? It sure has! This week has Maki and Amy squaring off in the theater, coming off their less-than-stellar Con table presentations. It’s not as controversial as the last elimination for sure, but there are plenty of cute moments here. Also, Cody has a surprise for us all!
PSA: Phoenix’s New Album – Bankrupt! – Is Out Today
It’s like a Starburst of music!

People Won’t Stop Watching Psy’s “Gentleman”, 205M Total Views In 9 Days
Psy: *something in Korean*
Everyone knows “Gangnam Style“. Everyone. Brought to us by obscure Korean rapper Psy – obviously not that obscure in his home country South Korea – his video was the first to produce a billion views on YouTube. He suffers no sophomore slump in views, but “Gentleman” is no “Gangnam Style”. Psy’s not complaining: he made $8 million-plus on “Gangnam Style” alone.
Backstreet Boys To Receive Star On Hollywood Walk Of Fame, Because Of Course
Don’t you remember all those crazy millennial-era sci-fi typefaces? I sure do.
In 1998, it didn’t make much sense to me why there would be a song on the Backstreet Boys’ self-titled first album called ‘Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)’ when, obviously, it was their first album and they weren’t back from anything. I asked my fellow eighth-graders how this made any sense at all and they shrugged. Of course, it wasn’t until fourteen years later that I realized that the Backstreet Boys, despite being from Orlando, launched their empire overseas with the help of Swedish pop producer Max Martin before bringing it to America with their second album. Also, that single wasn’t pushed to retail and radio until a re-issue, so there you go.
‘Dragon’ Review: Not Bold Enough
Dragon, starring legendary performer Donnie Yen, is another entry in the Chinese genre of wuxia. For the uninitiated, that means this is a martial arts flick wherein the characters possess mystical powers allowing them to leap great distances, perform tremendous feats of strength, and even fly. Wuxia flicks tend to be simple morality tales spiced up with a metric ton of well-choreographed fighting. Dragon (its original Chinese title is simply “Wu Xia”) promises to deconstruct the wuxia film the way Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven deconstructed the western, but the filmmakers ultimately chicken out.
‘Oblivion’ Review: This Year’s Most Ambitious Science Fiction Movie?
Oblivion will divide audiences just as last year’s Cloud Atlas did. Those who expect straightforward plotting and constant action from their movies will walk away disappointed. However, the intended audience for this film will find an ambitious, gorgeous, science fiction yarn boosted by strong performances from Tom Cruise, Andrea Riseborough, and Morgan Freeman. Oblivion may end up being the best science fiction movie of 2013.
